What is a peptide?
A peptide is a short chain of amino acids — the same building blocks that make up proteins, just fewer of them. The body uses many peptides as signalling molecules. In research and clinical settings, synthetic peptides are studied for a range of effects. Being "natural building blocks" does not make a compound safe, dosed correctly, or legal to obtain.
Reconstitution: turning powder into a solution
Many peptides ship as a freeze-dried (lyophilised) powder that must be dissolved before use. This is called reconstitution. You add a measured volume of bacteriostatic water (water with a small amount of benzyl alcohol to inhibit microbial growth) to the vial.
The key idea is concentration: the same amount of powder in less water is more concentrated; in more water, less concentrated. Concentration is what determines how much you draw for a given dose:
Example: 5 mg of peptide in 2 mL of water = 2.5 mg/mL = 2,500 mcg per mL.

mg, mcg, and syringe "units" — the #1 source of errors
Three different scales get confused constantly, and the mistakes can be large:
- mg (milligram) and mcg (microgram): 1 mg = 1,000 mcg. Mixing these up is a 1,000× error.
- Syringe "units": on a standard U-100 insulin syringe, the numbered marks are units of volume, where 100 units = 1 mL. A "unit" is not a dose of the drug — it's a mark on the barrel.
Always keep dose (mcg), volume (mL), and syringe marks (units) straight. The converter exists specifically to prevent these slips.
Half-life and dosing schedules
A compound's half-life is the time it takes for half of it to clear from the body. It roughly determines how long an effect lasts and how often something might be dosed. After about five half-lives, a compound is essentially gone.

Injection basics & sterility
Where injections are involved, sterility and technique matter as much as the dose. General harm-reduction principles include:
- Wash hands; clean the vial stopper and the injection site with fresh alcohol swabs.
- Use a new, sterile needle every time — never share or reuse.
- Store reconstituted vials as appropriate (often refrigerated) and respect expiry — bacteriostatic water buys time, it doesn't make a solution last forever.
- Dispose of sharps in a proper sharps container, never loose in the trash.
- Know the signs of a bad reaction or infection (spreading redness, swelling, fever) and seek medical care immediately if they occur.
